Level 3 Materials Technician (Laboratory Technician Standard) – London, Thames Tideway – Costain

Brief overview of the role

The River Thames is at the heart of London, but in recent years it has often been overlooked. Tideway wants to help change all that. We are recruiting talented people to help us deliver our ambition of re-invigorating a much under-used social, environmental and economic asset.

Vacancy description

The technician will be assisting on site and the laboratory in concrete testing. They will be part of a team of technicians currently working on 5 different sites which are part of CVB tideway East site. Our main role at tideway east is to make sure concrete delivered to the sites are fully compliant for use:

  • Testing fresh concrete for use on site
  • Working in laboratory environment to UKAS accreditation
  • Making sure all records and worksheets are correct
  • Testing of hardened concrete in the Laboratory
  • Being part of a team

Personal qualities

  • Be interested in getting it right the first time
  • Be interested in the latest technology

Desired qualifications

  • Have the equivalent of 5 GCSEs, grades A*-C or 9-4, including Maths, Science and English

Future prospects

  • Option to progress onto further apprenticeship (funded by Costain) upon completion of 1st apprenticeship (subject to meeting requirements)

Training to be provided

  • Level 3 Subsidiary BTEC Diploma in Applied Science
  • Level 2 Functional Skills (English & Maths), if required.
