The Sussex Academy of Music are looking for an apprentice to join our friendly team in Shoreham-by-Sea with the vision of them being employed after the apprenticeship is completed. We are looking for someone with an interest in administration, please note this is not a stepping stone into the music industry.

The Sussex Academy of Music are looking for an apprentice to join our friendly team in Shoreham-by-Sea with the vision of them being employed after the apprenticeship is completed. We are looking for someone with an interest in administration, please note this is not a stepping stone into the music industry.

SAM are a leading music service that have been delivering private instrument and vocal tuition throughout the south coast for 11 years and are in an exciting period of growth.

Our fantastic team include a graduate apprentice who will be mentoring the new member. We are a small team and the working environment is supportive and positive, perfectly situated on the riverside with bus and train access just minutes away.

The roles purpose is to assist the schools manager in a PA format and to look after our existing customers daily enquiries.

Core duties and responsibilities typically include:

  • Making, receiving and transferring phone calls
  • Responding to and creating emails to schools, tutors and parents / students.
  • Using bespoke software for lesson bookings and customer details
  • Note taking and documenting meetings and tasks
  • Participating in office meetings
  • Using Google Docs and spreadsheets for accounting

Additional ad hoc duties and responsibilities can include:

  • Supporting new enquiries department
  • Taking payments and setting up direct debits
  • Cover for reception desk

Requirements and prospects

 

Desired skills

  • Ability to write emails in a professional capacity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with good spelling and grammar
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good basic IT skills (Word / Excel etc)
  • Ability to filter information and prioritise tasks

Personal qualities

  • Confident speaking to people over the phone
  • Attention to detail
  • A desire to develop a career in office work and within the company
  • Sufficient drive to seek work on own initiative and ask for help where needed
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team.

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent (functional skills 2) in English and Mathematics – C or above

Future prospects

For the right candidate, there is the opportunity to move into a permanent role with the Sussex Academy of Music upon completion of the apprenticeship.

Additionally, the Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship provides a solid foundation of knowledge and skills for those looking to develop their career in the sector.
