Brief overview of the role


This role will be in the Materials Testing Division and will be involved in all elements of site and lab testing of construction materials. This includes elements such as: Hardened and Soft concrete sample and testing, Soils & Aggregates testing (both on site and in the lab).


Vacancy description


  • You are expected to undertake materials testing in such a manner as to satisfy UKAS and the relevant British Standard, completing work sheets neatly and completely and providing quality reports where required to do so.
  • Promoting the services of the company whenever possible
  • You may be expected to liaise directly with the clients.
  • You will be expected to carry out and assist with training of other technicians, junior technicians and temporary staff.
  • You will be responsible for following health and safety regulations.
  • You are expected to dress appropriately in the office, in the lab (blue / white coats, overalls, PPE etc.)
  • You are expected to keep your work area clear and tidy. As a Technician
  • You are expected to familiarise yourself with the company QA system and ensure that all laboratory activities comply with it.
  • You will be responsible for the care and security of all equipment and vehicles under your control, including hire equipment.
  • You will keep your Head of Department and/or Operations Manager informed and up to date with your activities on site, and inform him of any problems that occur (and your suggested solution) and any changes to the site programme.
  • You will be expected to be involved with the upkeep of the daily system checks i.e. tanks, temps and balance checks. When assigned to you, you should ensure that the checks are done on that day / week and that any faults are repaired and/or reported.
  • As all staff, you are responsible for ensuring that the property is locked and secure when leaving, this includes the outside areas.
  • As a technician in the materials lab you will also be expected to carry out laboratory testing, collection of samples, cubes and site testing, as and when required.

  • GCSE C or equivalent in English, maths, science.

Working week


Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:30. Overtime available if and when needed.
